ASYNCHRONY SOLUTIONS RELEASES LATEST PDA DEFENSE ENTERPRISE SOFTWARE TO STRENGTHEN ENTERPRISE SECURITY FOR CORPORATIONS
New Product Completely Compatible with Palmt™ Tungsten™T; Only Security System that Operates Across Multiple Platforms
ST. LOUIS (Apr. 14, 2003) -- Asynchrony Solutions, Inc. (www.asolutions.com) the leading provider of collaboration, communication, and security solutions, today announced the release of its new PDA Defense™ Enterprise 3.1, the newest addition to its leading data security software line for handheld devices. This latest version of PDA Defense Enterprise includes a broad range of enhancements to increase control that enterprises have over rapidly expanding handheld assets, and simplifies administration through a centralized Policy Editor.
Enterprise security and policy management for handheld devices has become a vital component of corporate asset management strategies. While the use of handheld, wireless, and portable devices is extremely beneficial to employees, the proliferation of these devices has complicated the IT management and security challenge. The invaluable information on these devices including network passwords, confidential information in e-mail messages, and customer lists that are commonly carried on employee PDAs pose a growing challenge for companies. PDA Defense Enterprise reduces the threat of data loss through policy management and tackles the helpdesk support challenge faced by IT groups taking responsibility for support and management of PDAs.
To address this expanding technology challenge, Asynchrony Solutions has developed the latest PDA Defense Enterprise product. The product enables a unified IT security policy to be enforced on any Windows® Pocket PC, Blackberry™ RIM, or Palm™ handheld device, including the Palm Tungsten-T (ARM CPU). The new Windows-based Policy Editor now supports division and department level management through group based policies, and has an enhanced user interface to simplify administration allowing for more discrete control over security policy settings.
New functions for all platforms include advanced selection of specific files for the patent pending bitwipe or device erase process in the event of a security breach and a comprehensive approach to remote password management addressing the challenge of supporting a distributed workforce requiring device support and password reset capability.
The remote password generating system allows administrators to provide a temporary password if an end user loses access to their device. To maintain security, this feature utilizes a time sensitive challenge and response scheme with a shared secret key that is produced from the administrator’s password and a device ID used for the challenge.
Enhancements to the Palm OS® platform include crypto libraries that support the new ARM CPU, and the choice between different ciphers including AES. The user will now be able to specify the size of the protected portion of the card from the available free space on the memory card.
Specific updates for the Pocket PC platform include the automatic synchronization of the Safe Folder Volume on the handheld and desktop, dynamic sizing of virtual protected volumes, and application launch protection allowing an application to run even if the device has been unlocked.
