ASYNCHRONY SOLUTIONS PERFORMS DUE DILIGENCE FOR AMERICAN FINANCIAL GROUP (AFG)
Client Challenge The Policy Administration and Claims Systems at American Financial Group (AFG) were in need of upgrading to support their e-commerce initiatives. To facilitate the rapid expansion of the insurance policy business via the World Wide Web, AFG and its subsidiaries have chosen to pursue a Commercial-Off-The-Shelf (COTS) based solution to replace their aging COBOL Mainframe applications.
Asynchrony created a process and set of questions used to evaluate the feasibility of incorporating a selected COTS product into the AFG insurance business.
Asynchrony Solutions Approach Working with AFG business requirements and technical architecture guidelines from the CIO, Asynchrony created a process and set of questions used to evaluate the feasibility of incorporating a selected COTS product into the AFG insurance business. Topics included in the analysis and recommendations include:
- System Usability and Human Factor Engineering
- Component Based Architecture and Implementation and Scalability
- Use of Emerging Technologies such as XML, XSL, XSLT, Java Beans, EJBs
- Data Architecture to include Data Models, Schemas, Stored Procedures, Embedded SQL
- Development Environments and SDKs for Feature Enhancements.
- Information Transport Methodology
- System Development Life Cycle Processes
- Application Support
Results Asynchrony has identified and recommended an application and environment that can be extended to meet the requirements of the AFG insurance businesses. By selecting and implementing a common technology and set of core functionality, AFG will realize a significant reduction in Automated Information Systems costs. These dollars will be saved by eliminating the duplication of capabilities currently being procured or built separately by each of AFG’s insurance subsidiaries.
